Ecological Momentary Assessment Research in Therapeutic Recreation

2019
Over the past 25 years, technology has immensely impacted the field of therapeutic recreation; however, our current methodological approach needs to adapt to the changing nature of therapeutic recreation. The ecological momentary assessment (EMA) approach is one such method that will benefit the field immensely. EMA has been widely used in disciplines such as nursing, kinesiology, and tourism but has only been used sparingly in therapeutic recreation. In this paper, we illustrate some of its uses and advocate for the continued use of EMA as a data collection technique that has multiple applications in the field of therapeutic recreation.
