A process for preparing rocuronium bromide and intermediates thereof

Process for preparing a compound having the formula I: Formula I, the method comprising: Providing a compound having the formula II: Formula II; Reaction of the compound of formula II with a molar excess of an acetylating agent, to thereby obtain a reaction mixture containing a compound having the formula III: Formula III; and contacting the reaction mixture with an aqueous solution of an acid, to thereby selectively deacetylate an acetoxy group at position 3 of the compound of formula III and thereby obtain the compound of formula I.
