A broad-range stepped-pole magnetic spectrograph

1975
Abstract A broad-range magnetic spectrograph for the analysis of nuclear scattering and reaction products was constructed and preliminarily tested. The spectrograph is able to record simultaneously the particles of which the momenta differ by a factor of 2.6. The new type of the pole structure (stepped poles) allows one to obtain an effective solid angle of about 5 msr at Bϱ ⩽1.25 Tm. The device was tested using a standard alpha source. A simulation of a simultaneous recording of non-relativistic particles differing in energy by a factor of 5 was carried out. A momentum resolution of about 10 −3 was obtained with source dimensions of 3 × 10 mm 2 .
