Impact of Art as A Therapeutic Intervention in Improving the Quality of Life among Geriatric Population

Objective: To study the impact of art as therapeutic intervention in improving the quality of life among geriatric population. Method: Quasi experimental pre-post test study design was used to allocate geriatric population in experimental group (n=5) and control group (n=5). Sequential session of 15 minutes of Mandala art coloring sheets followed by 15 minutes of personal counseling session and another 15 minutes of projective art time where the person can choose between creative writing or projective art, with transition of activities between the session the client was given with breaks of 5 minutes each in the experimental group. Only personal counseling sessions of cognitive behavior therapy were given to the control group. Results: All participants in both groups who began treatment completed the therapy program SF-36 was used both as screening method as well as outcome measure and showed significant changes in the quality of life in the experimental group. Conclusion: Art as therapeutic intervention for geriatric population shows positive effects on the mental health and wellness which in turn improves their quality of life.
