Tessellating Freeform Surfaces with Boundary – Driven Analysis
2013
In this paper, we look at the surface tessellation problem, in par- ticular, the problem of meshing a surface with the added consideration of incorporating constructible building components. When a surface is tessel- lated into discrete counterparts, certain conditions usually occur on the surface boundaries that are caused by trimming operations; for example, irregularly shaped panels at the trimmed edges. We present an algorithmic approach to tessellating quad-dominant mesh surfaces to deal with such irregular boundary conditions, and demonstrate its application through sur- face subdivision examples.
