Development of chromosome segment substitution lines (CSSLs) and identification of QTLs for plant height in rice.

2010
As a novel research material, chromosome segment substitution(CSSLs) in rice can make QTL identification more accurate because of diminishing the interference of genetic backgrounds. In this study,a set of CSSLs were developed from backcross between the japonica recipient Nipponbare and the indica donor Guangluai 4.The total coverage of the substituted chromosome segments on rice genome was 334.3 Mb,and the percentage of genome coverage was 89.8%.Eleven QTLs affecting plant height were detected and distributed on the chromosome 1,3,5,6,7 and 9 by using these CSSLs.The results supplied useful information for the QTL cloning and molecular breeding of rice.
