Development of Psychosomatic Medicine in Iran

Psychosomatic medicine in Iran is a developing field of research, practice, and discourse. Many postgraduate courses have been held in universities and other organizations. While psychosomatics has a long history in Iranian traditional medicine, there is a big historical and methodological gap between that old school and the modern medicine, although they have also some concepts and methods in common. Two main discourses, which are working in the field in Iran, are the biobehavioral approach and the systemic approach. In recent years, a few trends for integrating these two approaches have emerged.
