Quantitation of Erythropoiesis by a New Method IV. Studies Using 59Fe and DF32P Simultaneously in Haematological Diseases

The reliability of the author's method for quantitation of erythropoiesis using 59Fe was tested by simultaneous studies of mean erythrocyte life span with DF32P. 13 patients with common haematological disorders were studied. The mean erythrocyte life span as determined with 59Fe did not differ from that determined with DF32P. Differences exceeding 10 % were found in only 3 cases. The derangements observed in haematological disorders corresponded well with earlier observations on large materials and with other methods. Thus the method is a reliable substitute for more laborious techniques when erythropoiesis is to be quantified.
