Esthetic Rehabilitation of Complicated Crown Fractures Utilizing Rapid Orthodontic Extrusion and Two Different Restoration Modalities

2012
This case report describes the management of a crown-rootfractured maxillary right central incisor and a crown fracturedmaxillary left central incisor using two different techniques.A complex procedure was designed to manage this caseincluding orthodontic extrusion to move the fracture line abovethe alveolar bone and surgical recontouring of the alteredgingival margin. Finally, the right incisor was restoredprosthodontically. Prosthetic treatment was based onperforming a post and core, and all-ceramic crown on theextruded tooth. The left, less-damaged incisor was restoreddirectly using composite resin. The treatment resulted in good esthetics and securedperiodontal health. This case report demonstrates that amultidisciplinary treatment approach is a reliable and predictableoption to save a tooth.
