Screening of Pre-harvest Sprouting Resistant Germplasm Resources of Wheat and Evaluation of Pre-harvest Sprouting Resistance in Some New Strains
2010
Germination rate and polyphenol oxidase activity of the harvested seeds and the stained value of seed coat by catechol of 39 wheat genotypes, including the new strains in the national wheat regional test in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River in 2007-2008,the new strains in the Chongqing wheat regional test in 2007-2008 and some new strains developed or stored by the College of Agronomy and Biotechnology,Southwest University, were determined. The wheat cultivars or lines tested showed significant difference in seed germination rate, polyphenol oxidase activity of the seed and the stained value of seed coat by catechol.Seed germination rate was found to be in highly significant positive correlation with the activity of polyphenol oxidase of seed and stained value of seed coat by catechol(p≤0.01).Cluster analysis classified the materials into three categories. Some genotypes, including HLXM-76 and Luozhen-1,were identified to have strong resistance to pre-harvest sprouting, and they could be applied in the breeding programs for pre-harvest sprouting resistance in wheat.
