Pan-African E-Network – A Distance Education Case Study

2022
The Pan-African e-Network (PAeN) had its origins in the vision of India’s former President Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam who proposed a continent-wide digital and knowledge network in Africa, through contributions from the Indian government. Envisioned in 2004, implemented in 2009, PAeN is a success story and a foundation upon which smart village developments can take place in rural communities of Africa. The author was personally involved in the conception and proposal of the plan and provides a detailed description of the project and its outcomes as well as challenges encountered.
