A Methodology for Modeling Cereal Milling System

2020
In the cereal milling process, systems consisting of hammer mills and induction motors are gaining in importance with the increasing trend to develop simple and less expensive systems. In recent years considerable efforts have been made to implement these milling systems but, there are still many obstacles inhibiting their ideal implementation. Among these obstacles, there is a lack of technical data sheet, which gives the characteristic or performance curves. The paper presents a methodology for modeling to establish the characteristic curves. It also provides a new approach to determine the operating region and the optimal operating points. The model is developed based on the basic laws of mechanics and the specificities of the cereal milling process. The methodology is then validated by experiments using a test bench. Experimental results obtained from the methodology are presented, analyzed and compared to theoretical results.
