Bilinear analysis of short-range order in metallic solid solutions

1992
Short-range order parameters and short-range order dependent diffuse intensities are calculated using bilinear analysis in Cu72Au28, Ni-Al and Ni3Fe systems. The appearance of short-range order in alloys, quenched from below and above the critical temperature, is also studied using this method. The short-range order parameters calculated in this approach are found to be in agreement with the values determined from volume analysis. Nevertheless, the results of numerical calculation indicate that these parameters can be accurately determined only up to eight coordination shells using the intensity data measured along two lines in the reciprocal space.
