DEPENDENCE OF RENAL CLEARANCE OF RADIOIODIDE ON SEX, AGE, AND THYROIDAL STATUS.

1966
Data on the renal clearance rate (k2) for radioiodine have been analyzed statistically for 2 patient populations, Australian (1335 subjects) and United States (474 subjects), to establish whether significant differences are related to the sex, age or thyroidal status of the subject. In both groups there was a significant decline of k2 with age (about 0.7%/yr) and a significant lowering with both hypothyroidism (13–30%) and hyperthyroidism (9–16%). The value of k2 was lower in males than in females (9 %, significant in the Australian group; 3 %, not significant in the U. S. group). The average values of k2 were not very different for the 2 patient populations in spite of a wide difference in the mean dietary intake of iodine.
