Histopathology of chemotherapy-induced cutaneous lesions: report of three cases

1994
We report three patients with internal malignancies (systemic malignant histiocytosis, abdominal centroblastic-centrocytic lymphoma, metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the lung) who developed cutaneous lesions in association with systemically administered chemotherapeutic agents. Biopsies of the skin lesions revealed similar histopathological patterns which were characterized by the presence of interface dermatitis with abnormal epidermal maturation associated with syringosquamous metaplasia. It is concluded that chemotherapy-induced cutaneous lesions exhibit similar and easily recognizable histopathological features, despite differences in the clinical spectrum and implicated drug regimens
