Identification method and identification medium

An identification method for reading code information and assessing the authenticity of an identification medium that has the code information and has a light-pattern varying part in which the pattern of light observed varies when the observation angle varies, wherein the identification method comprises: generating correct-image data by a correct-image generating unit for imaged image data obtained by imaging the light-pattern varying part of the identification medium, the correct-image data being generated in accordance with the observation angle, which is the angle of the imaging direction of the imaged image data relative to a reference line on the surface to be observed in the identification medium; determining the degree of similarity between the imaged image data and the correct-image data; assessing the authenticity regarding whether or not the identification medium is correct, depending on whether or not the degree of similarity exceeds a predetermined threshold; and reading the code information.
