Development of oil resources and prospects for enhanced recovery from Bati Raman field in Turkey

1982
The most recent estimates show Turkey's known reserves that are recoverable by primary techniques at ca 17 million tons which is approx. one year's consumption. However, the heavy oil recovery technology which is going to be tested in the Bati Raman field could increase these reserves 4-fold. Turkey's oil production reached a peak of 3.6 million tons in 1969 and declined slowly to 2.36 million tons in 1981. Imports rose from 2.87 million tons in 1969 to 11.3 million tons in 1981. As a result, Turkey produces only ca 17% of the oil it consumes today, down from 56% in 1969.
