Tubal electrocoagulation for medical reasons. Case reports

1979
This paper reports on 25 cases of tubal electrocoagulation done for strictly medical reasons which included cardiopathies breast cancer and nephritis on patients for whom another pregnancy would have presented serious health risks. All interventions were done under general anesthesia and using high frequency current. 4 years after intervention there were no pregnancies or complications; there were 3 cases of tuboperitoneal fistulas which were not attributable to the intervention. Since electrocoagulation destroys a good portion of the tubes thus greatly limiting possibility of reversibility it would be preferable to use low frequency current or clips or silastic rings when there is the possibility of a request for reversal of sterilization.
