The Psychological and Social Impact of Arthritis

This chapter will introduce some of the psychosocial factors that nurses should be aware of that can impact upon, or be impacted by, a rheumatic disease. Where relevant, particular concerns for the older adult will be highlighted. The chapter will look at assessing depression, body and self-image, sexual relationships, social roles, social support and challenges to maintaining valued activities.
