Pathogenic bacteria and risk factor analyses of fungal infection in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases complicated with diabetes.

2010
Objective To investigate the distribution of pathogenic bacteria and the main risk factors of fungal infection in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases(COPD) complicated with diabetes mellitus.Method Pathogenic bacteria and prognosis analyses were performed to 58 cases and the results were compared with those of 76 patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases and fungal infection but without diabetes mellitus.Result Blastomyces albicans was the major pathogenic bacteria in all of the patients. The rate of fungal infection was higher and the prognosis was more serious in patients with diabetes mellitus than in those without diabetes mellitus. Conclusion Blastomyces albicans is still the major pathogenic bacteria in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases and fungal infection.Diabetes mellitus can improve the risk of fungal infection and affect the prognosis in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases.
