Procedures for minimizing the aberrations of electromagnetic compound lenses

Procedures for minimizing the aberrations of electromagnetic compound lenses. Two techniques are outlined for optimizing the electromagnetic field of rotationally symmetric electron lenses. Field distributions with minimum aberrations are investigated for various arrangements and constraints. By means of these examples the characteristic fundamental behaviour of the optimized axial electromagnetic field is discussed in detail.
