Aims Subtropical ecosystems are generally characterized by phosphorus (P)-deficient soils; however, extreme P-rich soils develop on phosphate rocks. We aimed to integrate metabolomic and ionomic analyses to survey how in situ trees adaptively respond to such contrasting P soils.
