Cobalt Catalyzed Carbonylation of Benzal Chloride Derivatives to Alkyl Phenylacetates(II)

Treatment of benzal chloride, alcohol, , and a catalytic amount of at for 24 hours under 30 atm of CO gave the corresponding alkyl phenylacetate in good yield.
