The melting point of potassium superoxide

1965
1. The thermographic method was used to determine the melting point of potassium Superoxide, which at atmospheric pressure lies between 490 and 530° for the different specimens. In vacuo, at a residual pressure of 1–2 mm, the melting point of potassium Superoxide drops to 350–415°. 2. A vigorous reaction between the molten potassium Superoxide and the glass is observed when the recording of the thermograms is done in glass vessels, which reaction goes with the formation of potassium silicate and the liberation of active oxygen.
