An investigation of the electrolytes of aluminum production with the help of physicochemical simulation

2009
A physicochemical simulation of a melting electrolyte is performed with the purpose of developing methods for monitoring the content of impurity elements. A physicochemical model, which allows one to reduce the time and expenses for a chemicoanalytical investigation of the properties of the electrolyte of aluminum baths necessary for the stable performance of electrolysis, is approved. The possibility of determining the phase composition of the main components and impurity elements in the electrolyte that form as the analytical procedures are being carried out at the stages of melting, evaporation, and solidification is shown.
