Distribution of Calcium in the Intestinal Tract of Snow Trout, Schizothorax curvifrons Heckel (Cyprinidae, Cypriniformes, Teleost)

2011
The distribution and localization of calcium and its functional significance in the histological sections of different portions of the intestinal tract of a naturally feeding freshwater teleost, Schizothorax curvifrons has been studied histochemically. The mucosal columnar epithelial cells of the intestinal bulb and the submucosal lymph spaces, blood vessels and blood capillaries of the intestinal bulb and intestine were observed to be calcium positive, whereas the rectum of the investigated fish react negatively to Alizarin red S stain.
