A Preliminary Analysis of Tang Zhongyou's Academic Approach

The most striking characteristic of the theoretical research on schools of thoughts in the east of Zhejiang in the SouthernSong Dynasty was that much emphasis was laid on how to solve practical problems, which very pragmatistic. A case in point was the school of thoughts in Yongkang and Yongja districts, which viewed efficacy and interest as the standard of theoretical research. And another example was the school of thoughts in Jinhua,which approached the nature of human being. However,there was an unique scholar named Tang Zhongyou,whose study was quite different from the school of thoughts mentioned above. His research revolved around the social problems in politics, economics etc. And he also applied his theories to social reform. His practicing of what he advocated and practical and realistic style were and are still praiseworthy today.\;
