As Ciências da Terra no currículo do Estado de São Paulo : uma abordagem reflexiva

Earth Sciences literacy is recognized as fundamental in order to prepare citizens and forunderstanding, appreciation and conservation of geoheritage. Thus, several initiatives have emergedindicating a set of knowledge necessary for Earth Sciences literacy. Based on these initiatives, a criticaland reflexive analysis of the Sao Paulo curriculum, developed by the State Education Department, wascarried out. It was possible to identify several topics of the curriculum related to Earth Sciences. However,they are fragmented between disciplines, series and over two-month periods, without proper sequencingor connection. In despite of the presence of contents related to Earth Sciences in the curriculum, thedisciplinary arrangement and pedagogical practices compromise literacy in Earth Sciences in basiceducation, negatively affecting the relationship between community and geological heritage.
