Zn-PTFE composite coating – an alternative for functional coatings

2013
This article covers the characterization of newly developed zinc based composite coating with incorporated polytetrafluorethylene particles (Zn-PTFE coating). Coatings prepared under selected optimal parameters were studied with regard to their composition by microscopic analysis, infrared spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and with regard to their function by tribological experiments and corrosion tests. Analytical methods enabled to evaluate the presence of PTFE particles in the coatings and also the homogeneity of the particles distribution. Tribological experiment confirmed a positive effect of PTFE on friction properties of Zn-PTFE coatings. Corrosion tests demonstrated that the addition of PTFE did not decrease the corrosion resistance of Zn-PTFE coatings. Due to their corrosion resistance and self-lubricating properties, Zn-PTFE coatings offer promising alternative to currently used functional coatings.
