Design and operation of the EURIDIS ranging system

1997
Satellite navigation will become a primary means for civil aviation users when their stringent requirements on accuracy, integrity, continuity and availability will be provided by GNSS-1, a Global Navigation Satellite System based on GPS, GLONASS and Geostationary overlay augmentation service. EGNOS is the European Regional augmentation to GPS and GLONASS, based on INMARSAT In AORE and IOR navigation transponders, it will provide in 3 steps the Ranging, Integrity and Wide Area Differential services. The Ranging service on AORE is currently being developed by a joint CNES-DGAC program called EURIDIS. This development will constitute an inkind delivery from France to the EGNOS program. Mission and System requirements of the EURIDIS ranging system are presented. Then the architecture of the ground segment is detailed with the main design features and performances. An overview on the system operations will conclude the presentation.
