Diagnosis and Management of Female Urethral Diverticula and Urethrovaginal Fistula
2003
Diverticulum of the female urethra (UD) is relatively rare, occurring in less than 6% of the population. Since first reported by Hey in 1805,1 UD have become more commonly diagnosed due to better understanding of their presentation and to improvements in imaging of the female urethra. But, despite improved ability to diagnose these lesions, surgical repair remains challenging. Maintaining a high index of suspicion for UD and employing meticulous surgical technique in their reconstruction are ways to improve treatment.
