Influence of an axial cavity in a cylindrical charge on stress wave parameters

1985
Results of an investigation on the influence of the magnitude of the axial cavity on the nature of the wave loading on the rock and stress wave parameters being propagated in both the radial and axis directions of the charge are presented. Experimental investigations were conducted on organic glass blocks. Analysis of the oscillograms presented shows that a reduction in the stress wave amplitude is established in the radial direction relative to the charge axis as the diameter of the axial air cavity increases. A certain reduction is observed in the local action of the explosion and the zone of crack-formation in the radial direction and the amplification of the explosion efficiency in the area of the bottom part of the borehole.
