Business Intelligence Systems, Uncertainty in Decision-Making and Effectiveness of Organizational Coordination

This work to the literature that deals with the effects of the adoption and use of information and communication technologies (ICT) on the enterprises. In the realm of all possible ICT solutions that can be adopted, our attention is focused on the study of Business Intelligence Systems (BIS) as support and decisional coordination tools. The strategic role of BISs in terms of improvement of performance and competitiveness is currently recognized by the management. However, these are primarily studied from a technological perspective and research on their organizational effects on the enterprises are limited. The purpose of this paper is to analyze BISs from an organizational perspective. A model will be proposed to study the relationship between a Business Intelligence system, the uncertainty related to decision-making processes and the effectiveness of organizational coordination.
