Yasmine : a new tool for stationXML

2020
After having been the standard that allowed the multiplication and standardization of data and metadata exchanges for 30 years, the SEED (Standard for Exchange of Earthquake Data) and more particularly its metadata part, the SEED dataless has been replaced by theXML station. This replacement, decided by the FDSN (Federation of Digital Seismic Networks) in which Resif and Geoscope are members, has been progressively implemented by the world's data centres, including Resif from its beginnings. On December 1, 2019, the European Data Center Network EIDA has also decided to close the last infrastructure allowing SEED data exchange: Arclink. However, while relatively simple tools are available for manipulating and creating metadata files in the SEED dataless format, there are none for the StationXML format. There is a SEED -> stationXML converter, developed by IRIS (Integrated Research Institutions for Seismology), but it does not support some possibilities of the StationXML format (network citation DOI, station geology information). In addition, it imposes to continue to produce SEED dataless as an intermediate step. IRIS having realized in 2018 a first version of Yasmine (Yet Another Station Metadata INformation Editor,) a specific tool producing stationXML natively, the Resif information system has supported the development of a second version to add many features, including the support of atomic libraries of instruments maintained for many years within the A Resif nodes. This video shows the use of Yasmine. It was presented at the EGU 2020 congress. Resif, a national research infrastructure dedicated to the observation and understanding of internal Earth structure and dynamics. Resif is based on high-tech observation networks composed of seismological, geodetic and gravimetric instruments deployed in a dense manner throughout France. The data collected allow the study of ground deformation, surface and deep structures, local and global seismicity and natural hazards, particularly seismic, on the French territory with a high spatio-temporal resolution. Resif is integrated into the European (EPOS - European Plate Observing System) and worldwide instruments that allow to image the Earth's interior as a whole and to study many natural phenomena.
