Ecological Mortars with Blast Slag Waste Application

The objective of this work is to evaluate the replacement of cement and sand by blast furnace slag waste, in order to produce mortars with better mechanical properties. Mortars were used 1:3:1.5 (cement: sand: water), with substitution of 0, 10, 20, and 30% of cement by slag. A reference mortar was also produced without the application of the waste. Cures were evaluated at normal and thermal temperatures at 60 °C and tests were performed on compressive strength, water absorption, porosity, density, and consistency. The results indicate that the slag is viable in the application of both replacing sand and replacing cement.
