A Novel Boost Converter with Two Independently Controlled Switches

2019
The paper proposes a new Boost converter with two independently controlled active switches, exhibiting a high static conversion ratio, while it still operates at moderate duty cycles. The new step-up topology is suitable in applications that require an output voltage considerably higher than the input voltage. A DC and AC analysis is performed in order to obtain the static characteristics of the converter. Compared to the double cascade boost converter, the conversion ratio at the same duty cycles, D 1 and D 2 , is higher. A comparison of the proposed converter to those of quadratic and cascaded Boost topologies showing the advantages of the new converter is also presented. Design equations are provided and the converter is simulated in order to validate the theoretical operation of the proposed Boost topology. Finally an experimental prototype is built and the experimental results confirmed the theory, the simulations and proved the feasibility of the proposed converter.
