Effects of chemical treatments on ultra high yield pulping. VIII: Bagasse

The strength properties of refiner mechanical pulps from depithed bagasse can be significantly improved by chemical pretreatments prior to refining. The neutral sulfite process is more effective than alkali soaking or percarbonate treatment. The differences between bagasse and aspen in response to chemical treatments are also briefly discussed.
