Superficial venous system: how it?

2022
Abstract Venous systems and venous disease remain a poorly understood topic, despite chronic venous disorders afflicting up to one-third of the general population for some age subgroups. Knowledge of clinical and instrumental findings is the most important trick to understand what must be treated and offer the best management for each patient. Although several interventions could be proposed, it is essential to detect the origin of venous reflux; if the saphenous vein is involved in varicose vein development and/or if a saphenous vein insufficiency is present. These remarks are even more important in severe cases (with eczema, skin inflammation and ulcers) because a correct and prompt therapy may solve them rapidly. Furthermore, to analyze risk factors for varicose vein recurrence or saphenous vein recanalization is essential in predicting potential postoperative long-term outcomes.
