A possible model of grain size distribution during primary recrystallization

2015
A mathematical model of grain size development during annealing in a polycrystalline metallic system is proposed. The model is based on the simple assumption that at any point during recrystallization the increment in grain size is a random proportion of the grain size at that instant. The model predicts a lognormal distribution in grain sizes under a wide variety of conditions. The width of this distribution is found to broaden with time. The model is compared with experiments and computational predictions. It is argued that this model may represent materials undergoing primary recrystallization in some cases.
