O rompimento da Barragem I da mina do Córrego do Feijão

The mining activity imposes profound transformations in the landscapes, raising questions about the consequences of tailings dams break. The disruption of Dam I of the Corrego do Feijao mine in Brumadinho-MG (on January 25, 2019) demands the scientific community to understand the catastrophe itself, but also the aftereffects in land use mosaics and in the vegetation coverages. This work mapped the landscape changes imposed downstream the collapsed structure (Ferro-Carvao river watershed), through the classification of land use and occupation and vegetation cover in a scene from the Sentinel-2 satellite (spatial resolution 10x10 meters). Based on the prior conditions, the results expose the impacts of the dam break, contributing to the dialogue about the landscape transformations on the affected hydrographic system.
