Toxic heavy metal contents of food materials consumed by the population in tubewell and sewage water irrigated areas

1998
The various food crops grown in sewage water irrigated area had higher concentrations of lead, cadmium and nickel than those grown on tubewell water irrigated soils. Green leafy vegetables had the highest concentrations of these toxic heavy metals. The heavy metal contents in cooked foods, milk and water consumed by low and middle income group families in sewage irrigated area were also more as compared to the samples from the tubewell water irrigated area.
