The gender difference in China since the 1980s

This paper focuses on the trends of gender mortality difference in China since the 1980s and impacts of the gender difference of age-specific mortality rates on the gender difference of life expectancy at birth, compares various gender differences caused by death, by using data of censuses and surveys from 1982 to 2000, and data from Cause-of-Death Registration System of China Health Ministry in 1989, 1995 and 2000 respectively. The result shows that in the past two decades, the gap of life expectancy at birth between female and male has been widened gradually. The main reasons are gender differences in age-specific mortality rates and their changes due to malignant neoplasm, circulatory diseases, accidents and violence. All these show various features in the age of gender difference.
