Tetragonal Phase of Mn2B2 Sheet: A Stable Room Temperature Ferromagnet with Sizable Magnetic Anisotropy

2020
Exploring the magnetic properties of two-dimensional (2D) metal boride (MBene) sheet for spin-based electronics is a getting importance with developing electronic devices. Through, a combined first-principles calculations and Monte Carlo simulations, we present a new tetragonal MnB (tetr-MnB) sheet. The tetr-MnB sheet shows metallic ferromagnetism (2.65 B per Mn atom) with an excellent stability. Moreover, it is demonstrated that the tetr-MnB sheet hold promise for experimental synthesis within acceptable range by the results of stability tests of the tetr-MnB.We also find that the magnetic anisotropy (MAE) of 2D tetr-MnB sheet is significantly increased under the electric field. The Curie temperature () of tetr-MnB sheet is calculated as 406 K. This 2D tetr-MnB with high Curie temperature can serve as a promising candidate for future magnetoelectronics applications.
