COMPOSIÇÃO GRAVIMÉTRICA DOS RESÍDUOS SÓLIDOS PROVENIENTES DA COLETA SELETIVA DA UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DE SANTA MARIA, CAMPUS SEDE

2020
Universities can be considered small cities, because they have, in addition to the educational infrastructure, the offer of various services such as leisure, food and accommodation, which consequently results in the generation of solid waste. The National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS) establishes integrated solid waste management. The Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM) is defined as a large generator by the PNRS, so according to this, needs a Solid Waste Management Plan (PGRS) to manage the disposal and treatment of the waste generated in its interior. To carry out the diagnosis, one of the phases of the PGRS, it is necessary to do the gravimetric characterization of the solid wastes. The objective of this study was to perform the gravimetric composition of solid waste from the selective collection of UFSM and analyze its added value. The waste was divided into different classes, rejects, organic, paper, cardboard, plastic, PET, Styrofoam, metal, glass, tetrapak, metallized, other and hazardous. The main components of the solid waste found were paper, cardboard, waste and plastic. It was found that the added value of recyclable waste is of great significance, making the participation of the university population extremely important. It was also verified by the high rates of rejects that the intensification of environmental education programs is essential.
