AN UPDATED CHECKLIST OF THE HERPETOFAUNA OF PULAU SINGA BESAR, LANGKAWI, PENINSULAR MALAYSIA

Surveys on herpetofauna of Pulau Singa Besar were conducted in 2001 and 2002. The total herpetofaunal species recorded from the surveys is 43 species. Combining this number with previous records, the accumulative total is 50 species, which is approximately 50% of the total 99 species as previously reported from the main island of Langkawi. This number is considered high after taking into account the size of the Pulau Singa Besar, which is 11.3 km2, compared to that of Pulau Langkawi, which is 328 km2.
