Managing common physical problems with HIV

2001
The skin and mouth are organs that show HIV complications early in the disease. Maintaining nutritional intake and minimising gastrointestinal loss is vital - treating simple common problems can help. In HIV-positive patients common conditions are often more severe and widespread. Treatments often require prolonged use at higher doses. In the era of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) the treatment of AIDS-defining illnesses is no longer commonly seen in general practice. If response to treatment is slower than expected, consider referral to an HIV specialist. (author abstract)
