Detection and location of strong storm Meari by Doppler radar

By fitting typhoon base data from zhoushan weather Doppler radar and data from auto weather stations in Zhejiang province from 2004 to 2005, a Z-R relation suiting for zhoushan area is derived. According to the Z-R relation, the precipitation induced by Meari is evaluated. As result shows, the evaluating value is close to the observed precipitation data, which greatly improved the value evaluated on Z-R relation that is offered by American WSR88D. In this paper, a relation between Backwind zone and rainfall caused by strom Meari and the forming reason of two heavy rainfall in Zhoushan is studied. Furthermore, variance analysis of evaluated precipitation and observed precipitation is discussed.When we are locating centre of Meari, jumping of Meari eye is observed. In our opinion, the phenomenon occurs not only when typhoons are close to land but also in the typhoon weakening stage on effect of typhoon inner factors and environmental circulation when typhoon eye circulation is complicated. We find that the jumping of eye exists 1 hour difference between the location from CCTV and the data from radar.
