LA “FOLIE À DEUX”: EL DOBLE CRIMEN DE LAS HERMANAS PAPIN

2015
LA ‘FOLIE A DEUX’: THE DOUBLE CRIME OF THE SISTERS PAPIN This article aims to tackle the ‘folie a deux’ phenomenon by rereading the double murder case of the Papin sisters, which was commited in France in 1933. This phenomenon will be characterized and we will try to glimpse the reasons that led these two sisters to commiting this horrific crime, by taking J. Lacan’s comments on this case and through the works of contemporary psychoanalysts. Furthermore, we will see that this is a case of a shared insanity, not only by the two sisters, but also by their mother. While both the mother and her daughters shared the madness, they do not have a common delusion. Indeed, the delirium of each one of them are hooked to one another and the passage to the act ends up being a solution. We will refer to this matter from the latest teachings of Lacan, such as the notion of sinthome.
