Neuropharmacological effects of Albizzia Chinensis extract

Introduction: To know the Neuropharmacological effects of Albizzia chinensis extract in rats and mice. Materials and Methods: The test compound was evaluated experimentally for its neuropharmacological activities in rats and mice. Blind neuropharmacological screening, potentiation of barbiturate hypnosis, stimulation of the central nervous system, maximal electroshock and pentylenetetrazol induced convulsions, analgesic activity were studied. Results: The compound potentiated pentobarbital hypnosis, reduced spontaneous motor activity, antagonized amphetamine induced hyperactivity, blocked the conditioned avoidance response without affecting the unconditioned response and showed analgesic activity by the tail-flick method but not in hot plate model in the experimental animals. Conclusion: The compound is similar to chlorpromazine and morphine. Keyword: Saponin, Central nervous system, Animals.
