Technology Policy Programme

2019
This paper evaluates the significance of online privacy and the lack of cybersecurity and laws present to protect this privacy. We have used incidents and examples of technology firms and governments to prove that the standard of privacy protection and level of cyber-security is rapidly deteriorating. Recent cyber-attacks and leaks, government actions against cyber-security, terms and conditions and hidden clauses, political issues, tampering and influencing via social media and cyber-attacks clearly indicate that substantial work needs to be done to counter these problems. Stricter laws need to be enacted by governments around the globe to prevent this deterioration. We have included examples of such regulations that could be passed. By virtue of this paper, we aim to limit, if not curb, the breaches of privacy and thus improve the effectiveness of cyber-security.
